How to Find Your Signature Scent

Finding your signature fragrance is an important part of deciding how you want to come across to those around you. It can be a complicated decision that can take a long time, but it can also be an immediate decision. There are some things you need to consider before you take the plunge, and it’s always good to make sure the decision is the best possible one for you.

Sample your scent before you buy

Perfumes can be very expensive, so making sure that you’re 100% on the scent you decide on is important. Make sure that you find a stockist in person, or order a sample online, so that you can smell the perfume you want to try. Perfumes can also smell completely different when they react with your skin, so something you might like in the bottle, may smell horrible when you wear it. It’s all trial and error and trying to find exactly what you want!

Consider what you want your fragrance to say

As much as your fragrance may remind people of you if they smell something similar, it can also reflect your personality. If you’re extraverted and like to stand out from the crowd, you’ll want a punchy and strong fragrance to mirror that. If you’re more introverted, you may want something discreet and delicate, so as not to overpower your quiet demeanour. There are multiple options depending on what image you want to give to the outside world: even though you might like the smell of your perfume, you need to think about what you’re communicating to other people, too.

Don’t fall victim to trends

Maybe you’ve seen an advert for a new perfume you’d like to try or heard one of your friends talking about the new scent they’ve just found. Instead of pandering to trends, think about what you like and what you enjoy. Really home in on the scents you like: do you prefer sweet notes, like vanilla and amber? Or are you into more musky scents? It’s important to put as much research into this decision as possible so as to not be duped out of your money, all because of fragrance trends.
